Pretty funny, I thought.

Now that teams are closer to complete and nearer the cap, I think the chances are even slimmer than when I called it out as a possibility in my Canes blog awhile back, but what do you think of a Jeff Skinner for Keith Yandle trade (not sure who needs to include what else to even it up but those players being the primary deal).

My thought at the time was:

1) Canes desperately needed to improve defensively. I think the team is going with Sekera plus Komisarek for depth instead but who knows.

2) Skinner would provide top 6 scoring skill (LW even) and also a very marketable player to help put butts in seats.

3) Phoenix is deep defensively and seemingly able to move on pretty well minus Yandle with OEL, some decent veterans on the roster and from what I hear good young defensemen in the system.

I think if this deal was going to happen, it would have been at/before the draft before Rutherford traded for Sekera and before most of the options to replace Skinner with a UFA signed elsewhere.

I think they would do it in a heartbeat if they thought one of three things.

Can OEL run the PP as well as Yandle?

Is Rundblad ready to step into that PP role, is his defensive game evolved enough to be a regular?

What role will Stone and Gormley play at the next level, will they get the PP time they need?


I'd hate to lose Yandle, but that's a fair deal.

Im sure Little is more obtainable anyways, cheaper trade price.

And the avs only have Centres to trade, unless you guys want stastny and want to move someone else to the wing instead (hanzal or vermette) Dont really see that working out too well

Well at least you have one of the scariest group of centre's around. It's not Crosby-Malkin-Staal, but it's still pretty nasty (if of course MacKinnon can become the first liner he's destined to be).

If MacKinnon becomes the super star he is suppose to be, having Duchene as your number 2 and O'Reilly/Stastny as your number 3, thats not a bad depth chart.

It will be interseting to see 20 games deep into the season who Roy starts to favour as his go to guy late in games. I assume it will be Dutchy, but I have a feeling Mac will be Roys pet project
